Flashback Sunday or Recollections from Mammary Lane

We went to the American Museum of Natural History in NYC today. As we were getting ready to leave we slipped into the hall of mammals and I had a flashback to two years ago.

We were in the museum and my newborn (now two) was crying. My two year old (now four) was running around like a chicken without his head. I nursed my baby on the wooden seats with giant elephants as a backdrop. That is to say-I whipped out my mammary gland right there in the darkened Akekely Hall of African Mammals. How appropriate!

It is fun to link an institution as fabulous as the AMNH with such an amazing memory. I was exhausted and tired back then-I guess little has changed. I doubt I will ever get the chance to nurse again. So I am glad that I will always have the Hall of Mammals to remind me of my human-ness.

weaning wisdom

It is almost done. I am at day 2, tomorrow is day 3. We know kids are good after three's so I am hoping that after tomorrow the weaning process will be finished! I decided to stop after I came home from work the other day. My son was screaming his head off for "boob boob" the minute I walked in the door with him. I sat him down, tried to feed him and he would not eat. He kept slamming his hand into my breast screaming over and over: "boob boob maamaa boob boob". I let him latch on. He looked up at me with love in his eyes. 15 minutes later he shifted and nearly took my nipple off. I could feel the pain shooting down into my breast. The night before he had ruined my right nipple so the left was all I was offering. I popped him off and said "we are done". He cried, I gave him a bottle and have been giving him one ever since. Whenever he asks I say "boob boob ouch" He is also transitioning into the toddler room at daycare. So I tell him "you are a big boy now, big boys drink from cups". It all seems to be working.

Every night when he wakes up I give him a bottle, no more breast. I just can't take it anymore. Bleeding cracked itchy dry tits are horrible. Engorgement is nothing compared to those other irritations! I am done!!! one more day and I am done!!! My breasts will be mine again. Oh if if my husband gets lucky, maybe I let him touch them again too!

A reason to Boycott Delta!

Mir from blogher posted about Delta Airlines:

Please get your breasts out of our friendly skies

By Mir from WCS, 1:51 am, Wed 15 Nov 2006

I fly Delta Airlines all the time, but I'm thinking that I might not for much longer. Why? Well, apparently they kicked a woman off a flight for breastfeeding her baby.

good enough for me NEVER TO FLY DELTA AGAIN!
(Sorry Sean I know you work for them.....but they suck.)

I will be flying American this week and we shall see how they react. My 14 month old will need to nurse during take off and he is the size of a 2 year old....oh and I never use a blanket to nurse with him because he pulls it right off and starts playing with my nipple and laughing!

Nipples on Ice

I was trying to read and post at the same time while nursing my baby. He kept popping his head off saying "mama?,mama!" like dammit pay attention to ME not the computer. I was feeling unsentimental and ignored him, I mean why can't a boob be enough???? I kept trying to cut and paste some links etc, at one point he completely fell off my lap, but was able to stand and staying nursing. In fact he never let go! Says alot about how horribly flexible motherhood has made my breasts. Anyway-I am almost done comments and everything when he clamps down and laughs at me as I cry out. I mean his little teeth are like vampire vice grips! OUCH! I said to him boobie bye bye and of course he cried-so I let him back on even though I swear he smirked when I said no biting....
