Halloween Parade or Shitty Mommy Awards

So, apparently I am the only mom at my kids school that must work...because I missed his parade. And every freaking employee I bumped into on my way to pick him up said something like "man you are a shitty mom, your son missed you at the parade". Like I don't feel bad already, but shit did everyone have to make a big deal about it. It was my last day of work and I wanted to leave earlier-should've left earlier seeing as they laid me the fuck off. But I am a sucker and an ass and called every last patient before I left because that is the way I am and because the MD I worked for could be such an ass god forbid he calls his own effin patients....anyway I was late I missed it but really I was at WORK don't other women I mean parents work?????

It was supposed to be daycare that I sent him to, they informed me later they consider their place a "SCHOOL". Whatever-just take care of him and don't make me feel fucking guilty because I can't get to your goddamned fuckin' parade mother effers!

I totally know what you mean! My son's pre-school always gives me the "look" when I'm unable to participate in something.

Don't feel bad. He's young. There's plenty of Halloween's left.

The best advice I ever heard was from a boss who said "assume the best of intentions"...maybe some of what you heard was really inside of you. You expected them to be looking down on you b/c you were disappointed or your son was dissappointed. Your job as a parent should be to prepare your children for life (with some fun); work is life! Having a decent work ethic will provide him with greater life skills than a halloween parade he will never remember.

he has asked me everyday since if I will be at the next parade. And everyday he says to me "mommy you weren't at the parade, I looked for you..."

yes but you told him you would not be able to go...he is learning early to manipulate you. I think the easiest thing to unconsciously learn from adults and the hardest to unlearn as an adult. Just consider it.

considered-he hasn't mentioned it again. Manipulation in the eyes of a three year old.
